The story of XTERRA begins in 1996 when the first XTERRA off-road triathlon was held in Maui, Hawaii, giving rise to the sport of cross-triathlon. Within the next year, XTERRA expanded into the Americas, and by the year 2000 there were XTERRA events in the US, Europe and Asia. Soon trail running would be added to the mix, and today XTERRA has events in 47 countries across the world, and serves a global community of cross-triathlon and trail-sport enthusiats and outdoor adventurers.
