We are currently expanding our tech platform to support growth with organizational customers in China, Taiwan, and the US. PenguinSmart is a graduate of Alchemist Accelerator (#1 enterprise startup accelerator in the US) and SparkLabs Taipei, and was named one of the Top 5 Startups in the Taiwan Tech Arena by TechOrange.

Must Haves:

• A strong interest in health or education
• Bachelors Degree or above in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
• 1-2 years of relevant professional experience
• Fluent in Python programming language
• Familiar with popular machine learning libraries, such as Tensorflow, Keras, and PyTorch
• Broad Understanding of ML algorithms: HMM, RNN, LSTM, CNN, Transformer
• Practical experience of sound analysis using tools like Parselmouth or Praat
• Basic knowledge of linguistics (e.g. phonetics and phonology) and understanding of IPA
• Can read/write/speak Mandarin Chinese & English
• Can thrive in a distributed team and work with remote teammates
• Hunger to learn and to experiment (and be willing to pivot according to data)

Good to Have:

• Previous personal or professional experience in mainland China
• Practical experience designing a speech collection campaign
• Practical experience building a ASR (automatic speech recognition) model
• Practical experience developing a chatbot
• Practical experience deploying ML models and writing REST APIs

Additional Details:

• Time Commitment: part or full-time (potential to start as short-term contractor)
• Compensation: negotiable salary; generous benefits package for full-time
• Location: Taipei. The candidate will be working closely with teammates distributed across the US, Taiwan, and mainland China.

For full time employee - annual base salary with stock options, social insurances, flexibility to work from home, and bonus depending on team performance.
